BMW has officially revealed the BMW iX4 2027, bringing its Neue Klasse technology into a new electric SUV coupe. The model will arrive as the third Neue Klasse vehicle, following the iX3 and i3, and combines a sloping coupe-style body with dual-motor all-wheel drive, a large battery and BMW’s latest digital technology.
The new iX4 is particularly important because BMW is using it to expand its next-generation electric lineup into one of the brand’s most recognizable body styles. The first versions are scheduled to launch in March 2027, while the range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive will follow shortly afterward.
BMW iX4 2027: What’s New?
The BMW iX4 2027 is not simply an electric replacement for an existing model. It is part of BMW’s broader Neue Klasse transition, bringing a new electrical architecture, battery technology, software and cabin interface to the company’s SUV coupe range.
At launch, BMW will offer the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive. The more powerful iX4 M60 xDrive will join the lineup later in 2027. All versions use an electric motor on each axle, giving the iX4 all-wheel drive.
The iX4 also introduces bidirectional charging, meaning its battery can be used for compatible energy applications in addition to powering the vehicle.
A Quick Look at the BMW iX4

Specifications and range figures vary by version and testing conditions. BMW’s 828km figure applies to the relevant iX4 50 xDrive configuration under the stated test cycle.
The Design Takes the SUV Coupe Route
The new iX4 has a distinctly different visual identity from BMW’s previous electric SUVs.
Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and flowing roofline create the proportions of a traditional BMW Sports Activity Coupe. At the front, BMW’s Neue Klasse design brings the kidney grille and twin headlights together into a single graphic treatment.
The M60 xDrive gets additional M-specific design elements, including M Shadowline trim and distinctive M Yellow Lights inspired by BMW’s motorsport models.
A large panoramic roof with climate-comfort glazing is standard, adding to the open feel of the cabin. BMW says customers will initially have nine exterior colour choices, with additional finishes becoming available later.
Optional alloy wheels will be available up to 22 inches, while the M60 xDrive gets its own performance-focused wheel options.
BMW iX4 2027 Performance
The entry iX4 40 xDrive already has substantial performance.
Its two electric motors produce a combined 374 hp and 520 Nm, allowing the SUV coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. BMW lists a maximum range of up to 638 km for this version.
The iX4 50 xDrive moves the focus toward long-distance usability. BMW says it can offer up to 828 km of range, making it one of the longest-range models in the company’s new electric lineup.
At the top of the range is the BMW iX4 M60 xDrive.
This version produces 612 hp and 875 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. Its electronically limited top speed is 240 km/h, while BMW quotes a maximum range of up to 777 km.
The M60 will be available to order from January 2027, with market launches following in stages.
800V Technology and 400kW Charging
One of the biggest technical changes is hidden underneath the body.
The BMW iX4 uses BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology and an 800V electrical architecture. This allows the vehicle to support very high charging power while improving the potential for shorter charging stops.
The iX4 50 xDrive can accept up to 400 kW of DC charging power. BMW says a 10-minute charging session at the maximum rate can add enough energy for up to 387 km of range under its specified conditions.
That figure should not be interpreted as a universal real-world result. Charging speed depends on the charging station, battery temperature, state of charge and other conditions.
Still, the underlying capability is significant. The combination of a large battery and high charging rate is designed to make long-distance EV travel less dependent on lengthy charging stops.
A New Digital Cabin
Inside, the BMW iX4 follows the minimalist philosophy of the Neue Klasse.
The centerpiece is BMW’s Panoramic iDrive, which combines BMW Panoramic Vision with a central display, an optional 3D Head-Up Display and a new voice assistant. The central screen measures 17.9 inches.
BMW is also introducing its Operating System X, bringing a software-focused approach to the vehicle.
The cabin is designed around the driver, but the layout is considerably more digital than previous BMW interiors. BMW’s new software architecture is intended to allow more functions to be updated and improved over the vehicle’s life.
The iX4 can also be equipped with a Harman Kardon sound system capable of Dolby Atmos. On the M60 xDrive, the system is standard.
New Driver Assistance Technology
The BMW iX4 also brings improvements in driver assistance.
BMW describes the vehicle as offering SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems along with enhanced active safety functions. The company is also offering attentive hands-free highway driving at speeds of up to 130 km/h in applicable markets and configurations.
This distinction matters. Level 2 assistance does not make the vehicle autonomous. The driver remains responsible for monitoring the road and the vehicle’s operation.
Bidirectional Charging Adds Another Dimension
One of the more interesting features of the BMW iX4 is its bidirectional charging capability.
The technology allows the vehicle’s battery to interact with compatible external energy systems rather than functioning solely as an energy source for driving.
This could eventually make the iX4 more useful as part of a wider home-energy ecosystem. BMW has included bidirectional charging among the key Neue Klasse technologies used by the iX4.
The exact functionality available to owners will depend on compatible hardware, software and market-specific regulations.
BMW iX4 2027 Price and India Availability
BMW has announced market-specific pricing for some European countries, but an official India price for the iX4 has not been announced in the BMW India model listings available at the time of writing. BMW India‘s current lineup includes models such as the iX1, i5 and i7, but the iX4 is not currently listed there.
That means any proposed India price should currently be treated as an estimate rather than an official figure.
The same applies to an India launch date. BMW has confirmed the global launch schedule, with the first iX4 versions arriving from March 2027, but an India-specific launch announcement should be awaited before treating local availability as confirmed.
CarBike Insight Analysis
The BMW iX4 2027 could become one of the more important models in BMW’s Neue Klasse transition because it combines three areas that increasingly matter in the premium EV market: range, charging speed and software.
The headline number is undoubtedly the potential 828 km range. But the more interesting combination is the large usable battery with 400kW charging capability. A long-range EV is much more useful on road trips when it can also recover substantial range during a short charging stop.
The M60 xDrive takes the opposite approach. Its 612 hp output and 3.9-second 0-100 km/h time show that BMW is not abandoning performance as it moves deeper into electrification. Instead, the company is using its new architecture to deliver both efficiency-focused and performance-focused versions of the same vehicle.
For India, the biggest question is not simply whether the iX4 will arrive. It is how BMW positions it. The company already sells electric SUVs and sedans in India, so the iX4 would need a clear role within that lineup.
Its coupe-SUV body, long-range capability and premium technology could give it a distinct position if BMW decides to bring it here.
What Happens Next?
BMW will launch the new iX4 globally in March 2027, initially with the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive. The M60 xDrive will follow, with ordering scheduled to begin in January 2027 and production starting in March.
For Indian buyers, the next important development will be an official announcement from BMW regarding local availability, specifications and pricing.
For now, the BMW iX4 2027 stands as a major new addition to the Neue Klasse family, combining a distinctive SUV coupe design with up to 828 km of claimed range, 800V technology, 400kW charging and BMW’s latest digital platform.
