Electric two-wheeler sales October 2026 reached a record of about 2.24 lakh units, according to Vahan registration data. The festive month pushed registrations up from about 2.09 lakh in September and nearly 48% higher than a year ago.
TVS kept its clear lead, Hero MotoCorp made the biggest jump among the top brands, and Ola Electric was the only top-five maker to go backwards. Here is the full picture, brand by brand.
How big were electric two-wheeler sales October 2026?
India registered 2,23,847 electric two-wheelers in October 2026, up from 2,08,705 in September, according to Vahan data compiled by Entrackr on November 1. That is a monthly rise of about 7.3%. The Economic Times called it the highest monthly figure on record, with a 48% year-on-year jump.
Inc42 had published an earlier snapshot on the evening of October 31, using data up to 4 PM that day. It showed 2,14,654 units, and put October 2025 at 1,44,980. The later count is higher because it includes the final hours of the month.
Vahan counts registrations, not factory dispatches. It is the closest public measure of what buyers actually took home.
What drove the October record?
Festive buying did most of the work. October covered the main festival season, when many Indian families time vehicle purchases for auspicious days. The Economic Times also credits new model launches, and says established makers are using their wide distribution networks and manufacturing scale to pull ahead of the startups.
There is a base effect, too. October 2025 was a weaker month, at 1,44,980 units according to Inc42, so the year-on-year growth looks especially large.
Even so, this was the second straight month of growth after a soft summer. August’s revised tally was 1,84,671 units, Inc42 says, so monthly registrations have climbed by roughly 39,000 units in just two months. That is a strong recovery, and it came before the full effect of new factory capacity at the biggest makers.
Which brands sold the most electric two-wheelers in October 2026?
TVS Motor led with 60,429 registrations, a 27% share, followed by Bajaj Auto with 49,067. Ather Energy was third with 31,796, Hero MotoCorp fourth with 29,901 and Ola Electric fifth with 12,096. Together, the top five took about 82% of the market, according to Entrackr’s figures.

| Hero MotoCorp (Vida) | 29,901 | 24,440 | +22.34% | 13.36% |

TVS’s lead keeps growing. The Economic Times says its share rose to 27% from 20.6% a year earlier. Bajaj held its share at nearly 22%, but its growth almost stalled. Bajaj itself has blamed supply rather than demand, which we cover below.
Further down, E-Sprinto registered 2,124 units, while Motovolt entered the top 10 with 1,702 units, up 168%. Bounce dropped out after a 65% fall. E-Sprinto’s new G1 family scooter, covered in our E-Sprinto G1 guide, starts deliveries only in January 2027.
Is Hero about to overtake Ather?
It is getting close. Hero MotoCorp’s registrations jumped 22.34% to 29,901 in October, after 27% growth in September. Ather grew only 2.75% to 31,796. The gap between them shrank to 1,895 units, from about 6,500 a month earlier, based on Entrackr’s and Inc42’s figures.
Ather’s slower growth is not about weak demand. Inc42 reports that Ather says it is missing out on about 20,000 potential sales a month because of supply limits. Its Hosur plant ran at 98% capacity during peak production in Q2 FY27, and it is adding 2.25 lakh units of yearly capacity by Q2 FY28.
Ather also turned profitable in Q2 FY27, with revenue up 63% year on year to Rs 1,464 crore, according to Entrackr.
Why did Ola Electric fall again?
Ola Electric’s registrations fell 10.12% to 12,096 in October, from 13,458 in September, according to Entrackr. It was the only top-five brand with a monthly decline. Its share slipped to 5.4%, far from the days when it led the segment.
Inc42 says the fall comes as Ola works to rebuild its sales and service network, push cheaper products and develop its own battery cells. It closed a Rs 1,000 crore rights issue on October 30. Cartoq separately noted that Ather is now valued at more than 3.5 times Ola on the stock market.

Can makers keep up with demand?
Supply, not demand, looks like the main limit right now. Bajaj’s CFO said manufacturing constraints meant it could deliver only 75% of planned EV volumes, according to Inc42. Bajaj plans to lift Chetak capacity to about 80,000 a month by Q4 FY27, from 64,000 now.
TVS plans to raise electric two-wheeler output to 80,000 a month by March 2027. If both hit their targets, the market leaders could add tens of thousands of units a month next year.
Charging access matters too, especially outside big cities. Government programmes such as the plan for EV charging at panchayat level could help rural buyers, though most scooter owners charge at home.
CarBike Insight Analysis
October confirms a shift we flagged in our September scooter sales report: the electric scooter market now belongs to the big legacy makers. TVS, Bajaj and Hero have dealer networks, service reach and buyer trust, and they are using all three.
Ather is the exception among the startups. It is growing more slowly only because it cannot build scooters fast enough, which is a good problem. Once its new capacity arrives, the Hero-Ather battle for third place will get interesting.
Ola’s story is the opposite. Its share keeps falling while rivals grow, and the rights issue buys time rather than solving the sales problem. A turnaround would need better service, steadier quality and a product that excites buyers again, and none of that shows up in monthly registrations overnight.
Who should care? Buyers can expect better availability from TVS and Bajaj next year as capacity grows. Who should wait? Anyone eyeing an Ather may face waiting periods for now, so check delivery timelines before paying a booking amount.
