The TVS RTR 125 broke cover at EICMA 2026 in Milan on November 3, and it is the most serious 125cc motorcycle an Indian brand has shown in years. It has a liquid-cooled, four-valve DOHC engine, a six-speed gearbox, a 41mm KYB upside-down fork and a 5-inch connected TFT screen.
The catch for Indian readers: TVS built it for Europe’s A1 licence holders and has said nothing about selling it here.
What is the TVS RTR 125 and when was it revealed?
The TVS RTR 125 is a production-ready 125cc naked streetfighter that TVS Motor Company unveiled at EICMA 2026 in Milan on November 3, 2026. It was one of four European models shown, next to the Orbiter, M1-S and X electric scooters. TVS says it is meant for A1 licence holders and newer riders.
The first reports in India appeared on Tuesday afternoon. The company’s release, as carried by Autocar Professional, went live at 2:44 PM IST. ZigWheels, Autocar India and Rushlane followed between 3:55 PM and 4:51 PM IST.
It joins the RR 310, RTR 310, Ronin and RTX 300 in TVS’s European range.
How powerful is the RTR 125’s liquid-cooled engine?
The engine is a 125cc single with liquid cooling, four valves and double overhead camshafts. It makes 11 kW, which is 14.9 PS or about 14.7 hp, at 9,000 rpm, and 12 Nm at 7,000 rpm. A six-speed gearbox and a multiplate assist-and-slipper clutch come with it, along with selectable ride modes.
Some reports quote 14.7 hp and others 14.9 PS. Both describe the same 11 kW output in different units, so the sources do not disagree on power.
TVS has not named the ride modes or said how they differ. It has also not published acceleration or top speed figures. One outlet, The Bike Junction, notes that TVS called these pre-homologation figures, so the final numbers could shift slightly.
Peak torque at 7,000 rpm suggests an engine that likes revs, unlike the low-down pull of India’s air-cooled 125s.
What chassis, brakes and tech does it get?
The RTR 125 uses a steel trellis frame and a cast swingarm, which TVS calls its Synchro Stiff chassis. A 41mm KYB USD fork and an adjustable monoshock handle suspension. ByBre brakes include a 300mm front disc with a radially mounted caliper and a 240mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS is standard.

The 17-inch alloys carry a 100/80 front tyre and a 140/70 radial rear. A 140-section rear is wide for a 125.
The 5-inch TFT offers multiway Bluetooth, full-screen map mirroring and turn-by-turn navigation. Rushlane lists hazard lamps too.
Styling brings big tank shrouds, a rectangular LED projector headlamp, a split seat and a short, low exhaust. ZigWheels sees a hint of Honda’s CB125 Hornet in the face.
Why is 11 kW the most important number here?
Eleven kilowatts is the exact ceiling for Europe’s A1 licence. EU Directive 2006/126/EC limits A1 motorcycles to 125cc, 11 kW and a power-to-weight ratio of 0.1 kW per kg. TVS has built the RTR 125 right up to the legal limit, which tells you who it is for.
The directive sets the A1 minimum age at 16, so this is often a teenager’s first real motorcycle. That buyer weighs looks, screens and brakes as much as speed.
The power-to-weight rule has a side effect. At 11 kW, the bike has to weigh at least 110 kg under the rule’s measurement to stay A1-legal. That is our arithmetic, not a TVS figure, and TVS has not published a kerb weight.
How does the TVS RTR 125 compare with 125cc bikes sold in India?
On paper, the TVS RTR 125 makes more power than every mainstream 125cc bike sold in India and almost matches the KTM 125 Duke sold in Europe. The figures below come from each maker’s own website, checked on November 3, 2026. All four Indian rivals listed use five-speed gearboxes.
| Model | Displacement | Max power (official) | Max torque | Gears | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TVS RTR 125 (Europe) | 125cc | 11 kW (14.9 PS) @ 9,000 rpm | 12 Nm @ 7,000 rpm | 6 | TVS via Rushlane/Autocar |
| KTM 125 Duke (Europe) | 124.99cc | 15 PS | 11.5 Nm | 6 | ktm.com |
| Bajaj Pulsar N125 | 124.59cc | 12 PS @ 8,500 rpm | 11 Nm @ 6,000 rpm | 5 | bajajauto.com |
| Hero Xtreme 125R | 124.7cc | 11.4 bhp @ 8,250 rpm | 10.5 Nm @ 6,500 rpm | 5 | heromotocorp.com |
| TVS Raider 125 | 124.8cc | 8.37 kW @ 7,500 rpm | 11.2 Nm @ 6,000 rpm | 5 | tvsmotor.com |
| Honda SP125 | 123.94cc | 8 kW @ 7,500 rpm | 10.9 Nm @ 6,000 rpm | 5 | honda2wheelersindia.com |
The gap to the Raider 125, TVS’s own 125, is the interesting part. The Raider uses an air-and-oil-cooled three-valve engine and gets traction control on its top trims, as we reported in our TVS Raider 125 traction control update.
The RTR 125 is roughly 30 percent stronger and adds a sixth gear, a USD fork and dual-channel ABS.
Is it called the Apache RTR 125 or the RTR 125 LC?
TVS’s own release calls it the TVS RTR 125. Rushlane and autoX use “Apache RTR 125”, and Autocar India and Rushlane add “LC” for liquid-cooled, which matches the “125 LC” badge on the show bike. BikeDekho notes the Apache name is missing. For now, RTR 125 is the safest name.
TVS’s European range already lists the RTR 310 without the Apache prefix. In India, Apache still carries the name, as the recent Apache RTR 160 4V update shows.
Will the TVS RTR 125 launch in India?
TVS has not confirmed an India launch, price or timeline. Autocar India says there are no such indications yet but TVS could decide next year. ZigWheels and BikeAdvice think a launch is unlikely, and BikeDekho says no timeline has been released. Any India price today would be pure guesswork.
One wrinkle: the ZigWheels URL reads “india-launch-soon”, but its article says a launch is “very unlikely” anytime soon. AckoDrive alone writes that an Indian debut is “expected” next year, without naming a source.
Cost is the real hurdle. Liquid cooling, KYB and ByBre hardware and dual-channel ABS all cost more than the air-cooled parts on India’s popular 125s.

CarBike Insight Analysis
The TVS RTR 125 is a statement about where TVS wants to compete. In Europe’s A1 class, the KTM 125 Duke is the obvious benchmark, and TVS is going straight at it with near-identical power, a sixth gear and a strong tech list.
For India, the more useful takeaway is the engine. TVS now has a liquid-cooled, four-valve 125cc single with a slipper clutch. Even if this bike never comes here, that engine could appear in a future Indian product. That is our speculation, not a TVS plan.
A direct India launch would need a sharp price. Buyers who want more than a Pulsar N125 or Xtreme 125R usually step up to 160cc bikes, so a costly 125 could sit awkwardly between them.
Watch for Indian spy shots or type-approval filings. Until then, treat India talk as speculation. EICMA is also busy with licence-class bikes this year, from the RTR 125 to Yamaha’s Ténéré 4 A2 concept.
