BMW Motorrad has officially unveiled the new BMW F 450 R, bringing a compact road-focused naked motorcycle to its F 450 family. The new motorcycle shares its 420cc parallel-twin engine and core platform with the BMW F 450 GS, but gets a road-specific chassis setup, 17-inch wheels and styling influenced by the larger BMW S 1000 R.
The F 450 R has been developed for the 48-hp class and weighs 175 kg in ready-to-ride form. BMW says the motorcycle is designed around a combination of accessible ergonomics, low weight and responsive handling rather than simply delivering more engine performance.
BMW F 450 R Engine and Performance
The new BMW F 450 R uses a 420cc, fuel-injected parallel-twin engine with a 135-degree crankpin offset. The engine produces 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of peak torque at 6,750 rpm.
BMW says around 80 percent of the available torque is already accessible at 3,000 rpm, which should give the motorcycle useful low- and mid-range response for everyday road riding. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and meets Euro 5+ emissions requirements.
BMW quotes fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100 km and says the 14-litre fuel tank can provide a range of more than 350 km under the stated test conditions. The manufacturer also lists a 10,000 km service interval.
F 450 R Gets Road-Focused Chassis Setup
Although the F 450 R shares its basic platform with the F 450 GS, BMW has changed the motorcycle’s setup for road use.
The F 450 R gets 17-inch wheels at both ends and road-specific suspension with 140mm of travel. The chassis uses a tubular steel frame, while suspension hardware comes from KYB. Braking is handled by a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240mm rear disc.
The motorcycle has a standard seat height of 790mm. BMW will also offer a 775mm low seat and an 810mm high seat, giving riders different ergonomic options.
Four BMW F 450 R Variants
BMW Motorrad will offer the F 450 R in four equipment versions:
- F 450 R Base
- F 450 R Exclusive
- F 450 R M Sport
- F 450 R M Sport with Innovation Package
The Exclusive version adds Shift Assistant Pro and Sport suspension. The M Sport versions add Riding Modes Pro and additional TFT display functions. The top-spec M Sport with Innovation Package also gets BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch system.
The Easy Ride Clutch is designed to reduce clutch operation during starts, stops and gear changes when used with BMW Shift Assistant Pro. The conventional clutch lever remains available when required.
Features and Technology
The BMW F 450 R comes with a 6.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. The system supports functions including navigation, music and phone connectivity.
Other standard equipment includes:
- Full-LED lighting
- USB-C charging
- Heated grips
- ABS Pro
- Dynamic Traction Control
- Dynamic Brake Control
- Engine drag torque control
- Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes
Higher-spec versions receive additional electronic features through Riding Modes Pro.
BMW F 450 R Design
The new roadster takes visual inspiration from BMW’s larger S 1000 R. Its sharp bodywork, compact proportions and exposed frame give it a more aggressive streetfighter appearance.
BMW has also fitted an underfloor stainless-steel exhaust rather than the high-mounted exhaust system used by the F 450 GS. This helps create a cleaner side profile and reinforces the road-focused character of the motorcycle.
BMW F 450 R India Launch and Expected Price
BMW Motorrad has officially revealed the F 450 R globally, but BMW has not yet announced India pricing or an India launch date in the material currently available.
Some Indian automotive publications currently expect the motorcycle to reach India, with BikeWale listing an estimated price range of around ₹4.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh and a tentative November 2026 launch. However, that remains an estimate rather than an official BMW figure.
The final Indian price could also depend on the motorcycle’s equipment, import or assembly strategy and BMW Motorrad India’s launch plans.
BMW F 450 R vs F 450 GS
The F 450 R and F 450 GS share the same 420cc engine and basic platform, but they are designed for different types of riding.
The F 450 GS uses longer-travel suspension and a 19-inch front wheel for adventure riding. The F 450 R instead uses 17-inch wheels and road-focused suspension, making it the more road-oriented motorcycle of the two.
The F 450 R also weighs 175 kg ready to ride, which is 3 kg lighter than the F 450 GS according to BMW’s published specifications.
What the New BMW F 450 R Means for Buyers
The F 450 R gives BMW Motorrad a new option in the middleweight naked-bike segment, combining the company’s premium electronics and design language with a relatively compact 420cc twin-cylinder engine.
For Indian buyers, the biggest unanswered questions are the final price, launch timing and exact specifications for the Indian market. Until BMW Motorrad India confirms those details, any India price or launch-date reports should be treated as estimates.
The F 450 R’s combination of 48 hp, 175 kg ready-to-ride weight, 17-inch wheels and extensive electronic equipment makes it one of the more interesting new additions to BMW’s smaller motorcycle range.
