The Volkswagen ID.UNYX 09 has entered China’s electric-sedan market with a list price that puts it ¥40,000 below the entry version of the 2026 Xiaomi SU7. Volkswagen Anhui lists the ID.UNYX 09 Ultra at ¥179,900, while Xiaomi’s SU7 Standard starts at ¥219,900. The comparison is straightforward on paper, but a limited launch offer makes the picture more complicated: a small number of black Ultra cars are being offered for ¥169,900 for a limited period.
Price is only one part of the contest. The ID.UNYX 09 is a large, fast-charging sedan with a claimed maximum CLTC range of 755 kilometres. The SU7 Standard claims up to 720 kilometres on the same Chinese test cycle. The Volkswagen also brings a 92-kWh-class battery and technology developed with Xpeng, while Xiaomi’s sedan has built a following around its connected features and electric-car performance.
For shoppers, the useful question is not simply which car has the lower sticker price. It is whether the Volkswagen’s range, charging claims, space and equipment make it the better fit, and how much the SU7’s own features justify the extra ¥40,000.
What the ¥40,000 price difference really means
The ID.UNYX 09’s three list prices are ¥179,900 for the Ultra, ¥219,900 for the fully equipped version and ¥249,900 for the Max. The SU7 Standard also starts at ¥219,900. On list price, then, the entry Volkswagen is ¥40,000 cheaper than the entry Xiaomi.
Volkswagen Anhui’s launch promotion adds a second figure. The ¥169,900 price applies to the Ultra with a black exterior, is limited to 500 cars and is described as a limited-time offer. That makes the promotional gap ¥50,000, but it should not be treated as the regular price for every colour or every buyer. Buyers should check eligibility, stock and the offer’s terms with a dealer before comparing quotes. Volkswagen Anhui launch report
The ¥40,000 list-price comparison also does not mean the entry versions are identical in equipment. Trim contents, financing, insurance, local subsidies and dealer offers can change the final amount. The ID.UNYX 09’s mid-level trim is priced at the same ¥219,900 as the entry SU7, so some shoppers may find the most relevant comparison is between those versions rather than between the two least expensive cars.
These are China-market prices. They do not establish what either car would cost in India, Europe or another market, where taxes, homologation, distribution and equipment could lead to very different pricing.
Range and charging: impressive claims, different priorities
The rear-wheel-drive ID.UNYX 09 Ultra and fully equipped versions claim up to 755 km of range on the CLTC cycle. The dual-motor Max claims up to 705 km. Volkswagen Anhui says all trims use a battery of about 92 kWh, with CATL-supplied LFP cells and 5C fast-charging capability. The company says the car can add around 250 km of range in five minutes and charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 12 minutes under suitable conditions. ID.UNYX 09 vehicle information
Those are manufacturer claims, not guarantees for everyday driving. Real range and charging speed depend on factors such as temperature, speed, route, battery state and the charger’s output. A five-minute charging figure is especially dependent on access to compatible high-power equipment. Buyers should also check whether the charging network they use can deliver the rates the car is designed to accept.
The 2026 Xiaomi SU7 Standard claims up to 720 km of CLTC range and uses a 73-kWh LFP battery, according to specifications reported at its launch. The ID.UNYX 09 therefore has a larger published CLTC range and a substantially larger battery. That does not by itself prove it will travel farther on the same route: the CLTC number is a standardised test result, and the cars’ weight, efficiency, wheels and driving conditions affect real-world performance. Powertrain choices and what the range figures hide
The ID.UNYX 09’s rear-wheel-drive versions use a 230-kW motor, equivalent to roughly 308 horsepower. The Max adds a front motor rated at 140 kW, giving it dual-motor all-wheel drive. Volkswagen Anhui lists range at up to 705 km for this performance-oriented version, 50 km below the rear-drive cars.
That difference reflects a familiar trade-off. A second motor can provide stronger acceleration and traction, but it also adds weight and can use more energy. Volkswagen has not published every performance figure in the information available for this launch, so buyers should not assume a particular 0-to-100-km/h time or torque output without a confirmed specification.
The Xiaomi SU7 Standard is also rear-wheel drive, with a 235-kW motor and a claimed 720-km CLTC range. Xiaomi’s higher SU7 trims offer different battery, range and powertrain combinations, so the entry-level comparison should not be used to describe the entire SU7 lineup. Xiaomi lists the 2026 Standard at ¥219,900, Pro at ¥249,900 and Max at ¥303,900.
A bigger sedan with an Xpeng-developed technology layer
The ID.UNYX 09 measures 5,081 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 1,509 mm tall, with a 3,030-mm wheelbase. Those dimensions place it in the large-sedan conversation and give it a longer wheelbase than the SU7’s 3,000 mm. A longer wheelbase can help create more cabin space, but dimensions alone do not confirm rear-seat comfort. Seat shape, floor height and interior packaging matter too.
Volkswagen Anhui says the ID.UNYX 09 comes with an 85-inch augmented-reality head-up display and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. Its driver-assistance features use Xpeng’s VLA large-model system and a Turing AI chip rated at 750 TOPS, according to the launch information. The advertised functions include highway and urban navigation assistance, parking-space-to-parking-space assistance and several parking aids.
Those features make the partnership central to the car’s identity. Volkswagen Group invested in Xpeng in 2023 and the companies agreed to jointly develop Volkswagen-branded vehicles for China. The ID.UNYX 09 is the second model linked to that collaboration, after the ID.UNYX 08 SUV. Volkswagen Group’s China strategy
Driver assistance should not be confused with autonomous driving. Buyers should understand what the system requires from the driver, which roads and conditions it supports, and how it behaves when lane markings or traffic become difficult to interpret. A long list of assistance functions is useful only if they work consistently in the owner’s normal driving environment.

CarBikeInsight Analysis
Volkswagen has made the ID.UNYX 09’s entry price its sharpest argument. At ¥179,900, it undercuts the 2026 SU7 Standard by ¥40,000 on list price. Its bigger battery and longer CLTC range claim add substance to that price advantage, while the large body and Xpeng-linked software give it a distinctly China-focused character.
But the SU7 remains a serious alternative. Its entry motor is slightly more powerful on paper, its starting price matches the ID.UNYX 09’s middle trim, and Xiaomi has built a strong technology-led identity around the car. The Volkswagen’s promotional ¥169,900 price could attract attention, but the restriction to 500 black cars makes it a limited buying opportunity rather than a universal price.
For buyers, the next step is to compare the exact trims, verify the offer in writing and test the driver-assistance and infotainment systems in person. The ID.UNYX 09 has a compelling specification sheet. Its success will depend on whether that range, charging performance and technology translate into a convincing ownership experience beyond the showroom.
