2027 Triumph Thruxton 400: Spy Shots Reveal a Round TFT and Cruise Control

The 2027 Triumph Thruxton 400 is on its way, and it looks set to get the biggest tech upgrade since the café racer arrived in India. A test bike has been spied with a round TFT screen, new switchgear and what appear to be cruise control buttons.

Rushlane was first with the photos at 12:14 PM IST on October 29, 2026. Carandbike, Autocar India and BikeWale followed through the afternoon and evening. Triumph and its Indian partner Bajaj Auto have not commented.

Here is what the spy shots show, which features are likely to follow, and what it could cost.

What is new on the 2027 Triumph Thruxton 400?

The headline change is the instrument cluster. The test bike uses a 4-inch circular TFT screen, the same unit that made its debut on Triumph’s new Bonneville T4 retro. We looked at that bike in our Triumph Bonneville T4 buying checks.

On other Triumphs, this screen supports phone controls, music controls and what Rushlane describes as full-map navigation. It also lets the rider choose between five riding modes: Eco, Rain and Road, plus two custom modes called Rider A and Rider B.

The switchgear is new too, and it matches the Bonneville’s. That matters because the current Thruxton’s switches cannot control a screen like this.

What did the spy shots show?

According to Rushlane, the photos show:

  • a 4-inch round TFT instrument cluster
  • a four-way D-pad on the left switch cube to control the screen
  • what look like cruise control toggles above the D-pad
  • an integrated engine kill switch on the right
  • a moved hazard light switch and a new Mode button

Nothing else about the bike seems to have changed. The half fairing, clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors, rear-set footpegs and split seat all look the same as on today’s model.

Will the 2027 Triumph Thruxton 400 get cruise control?

It looks likely, but it is not confirmed. Cruise control on a café racer is unusual, and it would be rare in this price range in India.

Rushlane believes the TFT-equipped bike could also get more of the Bonneville’s safety electronics. That list includes lean-sensitive cornering ABS, cornering traction control, an emergency braking warning that flashes the indicators, and self-cancelling turn indicators. None of these can be seen in spy shots, so treat them as expectations until Triumph publishes a spec sheet.

Will it be a new variant or a full update?

Rushlane thinks Triumph is more likely to add a more premium variant than to make the new kit standard. That would mirror the way many makers now handle updates, keeping a cheaper base bike on sale and adding a loaded version above it.

If that happens, the current Thruxton 400 would carry on as the entry point, and the TFT version would be the one to tempt buyers who want the latest tech.

How much could the new Thruxton 400 cost?

Triumph has not announced a price. Rushlane expects the loaded version to sit close to ₹3 lakh ex-showroom.

The current price needs a note. When Triumph switched the Thruxton 400 to a 349cc engine in April 2026, NDTV reported a price of ₹2,65,442, nearly ₹11,000 less than before. Rushlane now quotes ₹2,76,552 ex-showroom. That suggests the price has gone up since April, but check Triumph India’s website or your dealer for the latest figure before you compare.

For history, the Thruxton 400 first launched in August 2025 at ₹2,74,137 with the older 398cc engine making 42PS, according to Bajaj Auto’s launch release.

Which other Triumph 400s could get the TFT?

Rushlane says the round TFT is “making its way” to other Triumph 400s, starting with the Thruxton. Triumph has not confirmed which models are next, but the logic is easy to follow. Once the screen and switchgear are signed off for one bike, adding them to its siblings is mostly a matter of wiring and software.

Here is the 349cc range as NDTV reported it at the April 2026 price change. Prices may have moved since, as the Thruxton figure shows.

ModelPrice in April 2026 (ex-showroom)PowerTorque
Speed T4₹1,95,00029PS31Nm
Speed 400₹2,31,89037PS32Nm
Scrambler 400₹2,59,24137PS32Nm
Thruxton 400₹2,65,44240PS32Nm
Scrambler 400 XC₹2,98,70937PS32Nm

The Scrambler 400 XC is the most expensive bike in that list, so it would be a natural candidate for the same kit. The Speed 400 and the standard Scrambler 400 could follow too, since they are built on the same platform as the Thruxton. For now, this is our reading of the range, not a Triumph plan.

Should you buy the current Thruxton 400 now?

That depends on what you value. The current bike already has the same engine, the same chassis, USD forks and Pirelli tyres, and the same café racer look that makes people buy it in the first place.

What it does not have is the connected screen, ride modes and possible cruise control. If those matter to you, waiting a few months costs nothing. If they do not, keep an eye on dealer offers once the new version is announced, since outgoing stock is often easier to bargain on.

Why does Triumph need this update?

Because buyers now expect tech, even on small retros. KTM has just given its 200 Duke a quickshifter and traction control, which we covered in our KTM 200 Duke update report. A smart TFT and ride modes are fast becoming normal at this price.

The engine change also played a part. Moving to 349cc for the lower GST slab cut power from 42PS to 40PS and torque from 37.5Nm to 32Nm. New features are an easy way to give buyers something back.

Triumph India is busy at the other end of its range too. It launched the 2027 Tiger 1200 on October 29 at ₹20.99 lakh, a bike we first wrote about in our 2027 Triumph Tiger 1200 reveal story.

CarBike Insight Analysis

The Thruxton 400 has always been the most stylish of Triumph’s small bikes, and the most powerful. What it lacked was the modern cockpit that rivals were adding. This update fixes that.

Cruise control is the interesting one. A café racer with clip-ons is not a natural tourer, but cruise control would make long highway runs far less tiring on the wrist. If it comes, it would be a strong selling point.

Who should wait? Buyers who want navigation on the dash, ride modes or cruise control, and who can live with a price near ₹3 lakh. Who should not wait? Riders who only care about the look and the engine. The mechanicals are not expected to change, and the current bike may become better value once the new one arrives.
