The Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT is a one-off concept that Stellantis revealed for the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, with the press release going out at 8:30 PM Eastern on November 2 (7:00 AM IST on November 3). It is the first high-speed, desert-performance Jeep concept to wear an SRT badge.
Three things are confirmed. It is built on a Wrangler chassis but reshaped from the A-pillar back into a CJ-8-style pickup. It has an independent front suspension, which Jeep calls a historic first for the Wrangler. And Jeep’s own concept page lists a HEMI V8 with 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
What is not confirmed is any plan to sell it: Jeep says the concept is not available for purchase. Here is what the truck is and what it hints at.
What is the Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT concept?
The Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT concept is a show vehicle that reimagines the 1981 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler as a high-speed desert truck. SRT, Stellantis’ performance division, built it on a Wrangler chassis, added a pickup bed, a roll cage and new independent front suspension, and fitted a 470hp HEMI V8.
The original CJ-8 Scrambler was a longer CJ with a small pickup bed, and it built a loyal following because it did not fit any neat category. Tim Kuniskis, head of American Brands, SRT Performance and Direct Connection, said SRT asked what would happen if it stopped “treating the trail as the limit” and built “the ultimate open-air desert weapon”.
The body changes are serious. Designers added longer doors, custom rear bodywork, an integrated bed with a spray-applied liner, a redesigned tailgate, unique fender flares and a structural roll cage. The nose is a modern take on the Jeep “Sharknose” look, first seen on a concept at the 2026 Easter Jeep Safari, and it borrows cues from the Gladiator and classic Jeep trucks.
How powerful is the Jeep Scrambler SRT?
Jeep’s concept page lists a HEMI V8 with 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, which is about 477 PS and 637 Nm. The press release itself does not give engine figures and only mentions “V8 power”, so treat the numbers as concept figures rather than production specifications. No weight, gearbox or top speed has been published.
Those figures match the 6.4-litre V8 Jeep used in the Wrangler Rubicon 392, so this is a familiar engine in an unfamiliar body.
Why does independent front suspension matter on a Wrangler?
Every production Wrangler has used a solid front axle, which is strong and great for slow rock crawling but less stable at high speed. An independent front suspension lets each front wheel move on its own, improving steering precision, wheel control and stability over fast desert whoops. That is the job this concept is built for.
SRT developed the high-travel setup with off-road racer Casey Currie. It builds on the system first shown on the Jeep Striker Concept, which Currie raced in a custom Gladiator to a class win at the NORRA 500. At the back, the Scrambler uses a trophy-truck-inspired rear axle, a heavy-duty wheel package and desert-racing hardware.
Rivals such as the Ford Bronco Raptor already use independent front ends for speed. If Jeep ever wants a true desert-runner Wrangler, this is the hardware it would need.
Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT: confirmed vs not confirmed
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Shown at SEMA 2026, Las Vegas | Confirmed by Stellantis |
| Built on a Wrangler chassis, new body from the A-pillar back | Confirmed |
| Independent front suspension, a first for Wrangler | Confirmed |
| HEMI V8, 470hp and 470 lb-ft | Listed on Jeep’s concept page; not in the press release |
| Removable, 180-degree reversible rear seats | Confirmed |
| Production version | Not confirmed; Jeep says not for sale |
| Price, weight, gearbox | Not announced |
| Any India relevance | Not confirmed; no Jeep pickup is sold in India |
How does the Scrambler SRT compare with the Gladiator?
The Scrambler SRT concept is far wilder in hardware than the production Gladiator pickup. The Gladiator uses a solid front axle and a 285hp 3.6-litre V6 in its mainstream form, while the concept uses an independent front end and a 470hp V8. Both pair Jeep open-air design with a pickup bed.
| Feature | Wrangler Scrambler SRT concept | Jeep Gladiator (production) | Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler (original) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Status | One-off SEMA concept | On sale in the US | Built in the 1980s |
| Engine | HEMI V8, 470hp, 470 lb-ft | 3.6 V6, 285hp, 260 lb-ft | Four- and six-cylinder options |
| Front suspension | Independent, high travel | Solid axle | Solid axle |
| Bed | Integrated, spray-in liner | Full pickup bed | Short pickup bed |
| Rear seats | Removable and reversible | Fixed bench | Varied by trim |
On paper, the concept has 185hp and 210 lb-ft more than a standard Gladiator V6, while keeping the shorter, open-air Wrangler feel.
What makes the cabin and seats different?
The cabin is built for fast off-road driving, with supportive performance seats in Dark Graphite leather, orange inserts, contrast stitching, bronze accents and SRT embroidery. The headline idea is the rear seat, which clips into floor hooks and can be removed entirely or rotated 180 degrees to face the bed.
Stellantis calls the seat system an industry-segment exclusive. Remove the seats and the full bed opens up for camping gear or motorcycles; turn them round and passengers can face backwards at a campsite. A rear-seat Jeep Multi-panel System adds mounting points for gear.
Could the Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT reach production or India?
Jeep has not announced production, and its concept page says the vehicle is not available for purchase. SEMA concepts usually preview parts, styling or engineering ideas rather than finished models. For India, the chance is very low, because Jeep does not sell a pickup or a V8 Wrangler here.
What could travel is the thinking. The Sharknose front and the independent front suspension are the two parts most likely to influence future Jeeps. Stellantis is also reworking its plans for this market, and our report on Stellantis India’s ₹4,000-crore product plan shows where Jeep’s local focus sits: SUVs built for Indian prices, not desert toys.
CarBike Insight Analysis
The Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT is a smart piece of brand theatre. It mixes three things Jeep fans love, the CJ-8 name, a V8 and a pickup bed, and adds the one thing many have asked for: a Wrangler that can run fast across the desert without beating up its occupants.
The CJ-8 history matters because heritage sells; the Scrambler name first appeared in 1981. The same pattern is visible in India, where reworked icons do well, as our comparison of the Mahindra Thar OG versus the older Thar shows.
It also fits a wider Stellantis habit of using limited, high-emotion products to keep enthusiasts close, much like the Mopar ’27 Dodge Charger limited edition.
Who should care? Off-road fans and Wrangler owners who want to see where Jeep engineering is heading. Who should wait? Anyone hoping to buy one. Our view: the independent front suspension is the real story, and the most likely piece to reach a future production Jeep.
