The latest JSW Combat SUV spy shots give us our first proper look inside JSW Motors’ debut model, and a clearer view of the body under the camouflage. The images surfaced on October 31, shared on X by the user SuryawanshiPrit, about five weeks before the brand’s big event on December 4.
Some specs floating around come from the Chinese Jetour T2, and a few numbers don’t match. This piece sorts out what the photos show, what is likely, and what is still a guess.
What do the JSW Combat spy shots actually show?
The test mule was fully wrapped, but the shape is hard to hide. It is tall, square and upright, with a flat bonnet and a near-vertical nose.
From the side, you can make out roof rails, side steps, thick wheel-arch cladding and large alloy wheels. Reports put them at 20 inches, which fits the T2. The door handles are the normal pull type, not flush units.
The rear gives the game away. A spare wheel hangs on the tailgate inside a squared-off hard cover, just like the Jetour T2. The headlamps up front are square, and the bumpers look chunky at both ends.
JSW Combat SUV Spy Shots What does the interior look like?
This is the new part. The cabin layout looks the same as the Jetour T2’s, with a big floating touchscreen in the middle and a digital driver display behind the wheel. The logo on the steering wheel is taped over.
Reports don’t agree on the steering wheel. One outlet calls it two-spoke, another four-spoke. The photos were taken through glass, so treat both as unconfirmed.
If JSW carries over the T2’s kit, expect a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch cluster, ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat with memory, a 12-speaker Sony system, a 540-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS. None of that is confirmed for India yet. JSW could trim features to hit a price.
What is seen, what is reported, what is unknown?
| Item | Seen in spy shots | Reported or expected | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boxy body, flat bonnet | Yes | Same as Jetour T2 | Seen |
| Tailgate spare wheel | Yes | Hard-case cover | Seen |
| Roof rails, side steps | Yes | Standard on T2 | Seen |
| 20-inch alloys | Large wheels visible | 20-inch | Likely |
| Steering wheel | Logo hidden | Two-spoke or four-spoke | Reports differ |
| 15.6-inch screen | Large screen visible | 15.6-inch | Likely |
| Level 2 ADAS | Not visible | Expected | Unconfirmed |
| Powertrain | Not visible | 1.5 turbo PHEV | Widely reported |
| Price | n/a | Not announced | Unknown |
How big is the JSW Combat?
If it matches the T2, it is a large car. The global model is about 4,785mm long (with the spare wheel), 2,006mm wide and 1,880mm tall, on a 2,800mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is listed at 220mm and boot space at 752 litres.
At just over two metres wide, tight apartment parking could be a real issue. It is also a five-seater, not a seven-seater.
What powertrain will the JSW Combat get?
Most Indian reports, including the Rushlane story on these spy shots, point to the same setup. It pairs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with two electric motors and an 18.4kWh battery, driving the front wheels through a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Claimed output is about 360hp and 610Nm. The claimed EV range is around 90km on the NEDC cycle, with up to 1,100km in total.
Here’s where it gets messy. CarWale’s lineup preview lists a 26.7kWh battery and a 137km EV-only range, and another report quoted 381hp and about 139km. These look like specs from other T2 versions sold abroad.
Our read: the 18.4kWh front-drive version is the most widely reported for India. All-wheel drive exists on some T2s overseas but is not confirmed here. And NEDC range is generous, so real EV driving in Indian traffic will be well under 90km.
Will it be imported or built in India?
Reports split on this too. Rushlane and a couple of others say early cars will come in as CBUs (fully imported units). Other reports say JSW will assemble the Combat at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra.
Both can be true if the first batch is imported and assembly follows. It matters for price, because imported cars attract much higher duty.
How does the Combat fit into JSW’s NEV plan?
JSW Motors is a separate brand from JSW MG Motor India. It has a licensing and parts deal with Chery, and our earlier piece on the JSW Combat SUV debut covered the brand setup in detail.
CarWale expects the first lineup to include two EVs and two hybrids. After the Combat, the next two models are expected to be based on the Jaecoo J5 (petrol hybrid and EV) and the iCaur V23, a boxy 4.2-metre electric SUV. Autocar India says those two are due in 2027. Expected India names for both are still unknown.
So the Combat is the halo car. Its job is to make people notice a new brand. Volume should come later, from cheaper models.
JSW is also in talks with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, which we covered in our report on Volkswagen’s paused India EV plans.
What will it cost, and who are the rivals?
JSW has not announced a price. Reports range from about ₹30 lakh to ₹45 lakh ex-showroom, and one portal estimates mid-₹40 lakh on-road. If early cars are CBUs, the upper end is more likely.
| Rival | Body type | Powertrain type | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|
| JSW Combat (expected) | Boxy monocoque SUV | Petrol plug-in hybrid | 5 |
| Toyota Fortuner | Ladder-frame SUV | Diesel and petrol | 7 |
| Jeep Meridian | Monocoque SUV | Diesel | 5 and 7 |
| Skoda Kodiaq | Monocoque SUV | Turbo-petrol | 7 |
| BYD Sealion 7 | Electric SUV | Battery electric | 5 |
| Mahindra Thar Roxx | Ladder-frame SUV | Diesel and petrol | 5 |
None of these offers a boxy plug-in hybrid at this price. That’s the Combat’s opening.

CarBike Insight Analysis
The spy shots confirm one thing clearly: JSW isn’t toning down the T2’s design for India. The square, spare-wheel-on-the-back look is the reason people search for this car.
The interior photos matter more than they seem. They suggest JSW is keeping the T2’s big-screen layout, not fitting a cheaper dashboard. If the feature list survives too, the Combat will feel more premium than most cars at its likely price.
The open questions decide whether to buy it. What does it cost? Is it imported? How many service points will a new brand have? A plug-in hybrid has two drivetrains to look after, so after-sales support counts double.
Our advice: if you like the looks, wait for December 4, then wait for the first proper drive reviews and service-network details before booking.
